Disabled Facilities Grant and Home Assistance Policy Consultation
The survey will take approximately 4 minutes to complete. The council receives government funding to administer Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG). These grants are designed to help support people of all ages to live in suitable housing so they can stay independent for longer. Creating a home environment that supports people to live independently can make a significant contribution to health and wellbeing.
In 2025-26 a record number of DFG referrals were received with 495 referrals received compared to 228 in 2024-25 with 134 adaptations being completed in 2025-26 (the highest since 2013). The types of adaptations that are delivered include things such as level access showers, stairlift and widening doors and installing ramps.
In addition to the mandatory disabled facilities grant the council have discretionary flexibilities through its Home Assistance Policy to be able to provide additional adaptations and support in order to help people to remain in their own homes and independent for longer.
