Scunthorpe Green Spaces

#Scunthorpe Green Spaces

As part of our efforts to create a cleaner, greener and healthier Town Centre we are excited to share our plans for transforming Scunthorpe High Street using the High Street Accelerator Green Spaces Funding.

Scunthorpe has secured £500k of grant funding from Government to enhance our High Street by add greening elements, including plants, trees, sustainable drainage features and seating to transform the area to become a more welcoming place for all.

On this page you can find out how you can give us your feedback on the proposals, by:

  • Completing our survey
  • Coming to one of our public events

Jubilee Way Project Area – Phase 1

Phase 1 will see improvements to Jubilee Way in The Parishes Shopping Centre. This street is a blank canvas which provides the opportunity for the enhancements to make a huge difference. Access to the service yard will need to be retained, but plans include the introduction rows of rectangular planters made out of Corten Steel as a nod to our steel heritage and providing additional seating to enjoy the new green features.

High Street Project Area Phase 2

The High Street will see the introduction of low laying plants and planters to create green corridors that feature a variety of shrubs. With the delivery of these green improvements, we are able to review the legibility of the street and consider the relocation of street furniture to make the street more pedestrian friendly.

Both phases will consider Designing Out Crime guidance and will look to introduce a new smoke-free initiative to support environmental improvements.
